Discovering our Uniqueness by Leo Buscaglia.
Each person is unique. Nature abhors sameness. Each flower in the field is different, each blade of grass. No two faces are exactly alike even in identical twins. Our fingerprints are singularly ours that we can be positively identified by them. But humans are strange creatures. Diversity frightens us. Instead of accepting the challenge, the joy, the wonder of variation, we usually are frightened of it.
To love oneself is to struggle to rediscover and maintain your uniqueness. It is understanding and appreciating the idea that you will be the only you to ever live upon this earth, that when you die so will all of your fantastic possibilities. It is the realization that even you are not totally aware of the wonders which lie within yourself. There is a you, lying dormant. Perhaps the joy in life lies in the pursuit and development of this potential you that is lying dormant.
So, loving yourself involves the discovery of the true wonder of you; not only the present you, but the many possibilities of you. It involves the continual realization that you are unique, like no other person in the world, that life is, or should be, the discovery, the development and the sharing of this uniqueness. The process is not always easy, for one is bound to find those who will feel threatened by a changing, growing you. But it will always be exciting, always be fresh and like all things new and changing, never dull. The trip into oneself is the grandest, most enjoyable and longest lasting. The fair is cheap; it merely involves continual experiencing, evaluating, educating, the trying out of new behavior. Only you can be the final judge in determining what is right for you.

I thought this article by Jim Conrad on his website; backyardnature.net was really interesting and reminds us that we are healthier and closer to Spirit as we are closer and in tune with Nature.
THE SIX MIRACLES OF NATURE ARE:
And what better definition of "enlightenment" can there be for a human than "living in harmony with the general flow of the evolving Earth?"
For example, in Nature here on Earth we see that recycling is practiced, and that evolution generally leads to ever greater diversity. Therefore, we can say that Nature teaches that we humans should recycle and revere the Earth's diversity.
Many such instructive patterns exist in Nature, but at a certain point interpretation becomes tricky. What are we to think about the Earth's species so often assuming such roles as predator or prey; as parasite or parasitized; as disease organism or diseased organism?
At a certain point during any sustained spiritual growth, mentality alone no longer offers adequate guidance. We must feel and intuit our way forward. But those feelings and intuitions must be refined through experiences with Nature.
A good first step is to recognize the FIRST MIRACLE!
I thought this article by Jim Conrad on his website; backyardnature.net was really interesting and reminds us that we are healthier and closer to Spirit as we are closer and in tune with Nature.
THE SIX MIRACLES OF NATURE ARE:
- There is something instead of nothing.
- From the beginning, things started evolving.
- Life arose.
- Life evolved.
- Some living things evolved complex instinctual behavior.
- Instinctual behaviour blossomed into consciousness, along with the ability to be inspired, have a sense of aesthetics, to grow spiritually, to override the dictates of our genes, and to consciously develop other traits harmonious with the rest of the evolving Universe.
And what better definition of "enlightenment" can there be for a human than "living in harmony with the general flow of the evolving Earth?"

Control is an illusion. Deep down we all know that but as we go through our day-to-day life we sometimes forget. There are things we can, and should, take care of, but “control” is more often than not out of our hands. And, yes, we have free will, but often we are trying to control or maneuver a situation in a direction that is not what the universe has designed.
For instance, recently I was helping to arrange the music for a Sunday Service. Once the songs were chosen, I was to download them in preparation for playing. A couple of days before the service I was told that one song had been changed. I was slightly annoyed because I felt all the songs chosen were perfect and, although a small amount, I had spent $1.29 of my iTunes gift card to download that particular song.
The following week it was another person’s turn to play the music for the service. When they didn’t show up, I was asked if I could step in and help. So, I played the song that was rejected the week before and felt happy that I hadn’t wasted $1.29 after all! I knew that this was a lesson for myself to remember that I don’t have, or need to have, “control” over everything.
But that’s not even the real kicker! One person at the service later told me that her piano teacher, which she had known since childhood, had just passed away a few days before and that song was her favorite, which she taught to all her students!! Yes, the lesson in all of this was partly for me, but more importantly, when I stepped out of the way of Spirit, they brought a lovely soothing message to the person who had just lost a dear friend.
So, make sure you take care of the things in life that you can, but when something isn’t going in the direction you have expected, have faith and let go of the reins. You may not always be shown the reason but quite often the universe has a different plan and is asking for your assistance in achieving their goal. Control is an illusion, sometimes we need to have faith and just let go. Blessings.

Isn’t it strange that so many people wish to do something during their lifetime that give them immortality? We desire to leave behind something so famous (or sadly, for some, infamous!) that we will live on throughout history. So, we pray; to star in a movie, write a bestseller, become the president of a company, or some other manner to garnish fame for ourselves, just so history will remember us. My mother believed that the only way she lived on was through her children. What does that mean for any of us who don’t have offspring, does our soul end here? Of course not. It is folly to believe that any human endeavor is the path to eternity.
We don’t need something to make us eternal, we already are! We have previously existed as spirit, we incarnate here on earth, and then we return to spirit, always remaining pure energy. And while I feel it is important that we consider the affect our thoughts, words and actions have on others while we are here on earth, it also ultimately affects our eternal evolvement once we reach the other side. Everything you have experienced in this physical form will be absorbed into the Divine Source; the Divine Source that is ever-expanding, ever-growing in wisdom and experience.

How many of you find a sense of peace and serenity when you are out in nature, whether that be in a forest, up a mountain or on the water? Perhaps it is because we recognize that nature works on its own without us, and often, in spite of us humans. Our planet, and indeed all of the universe, has a design that can at times take our breath away. I think we feel peace when we connect or commune with nature instead of trying to control it to suit our individual needs.
Wherever you are in the world, right now we are approaching either Spring or Autumn. These are my two favorite seasons because it is a reminder that everything is always in transition, including ourselves. Both seasons hold a wonderful opportunity to witness the ability of nature to rejuvenate. Spring, of course, brings us trees, plants and flowers coming into bloom, the awakening of all the hibernating creatures and a time for new offspring to arrive. Autumn is the reverse, where all of nature prepares for winter survival, many trees and plants beginning that transition in a glorious display of color.
No matter where you live; on a mountaintop or farm, in a forest or city, beside a river or in the most arid landscape, watch for the marvelous display of nature all around you. This planet and everything on it are such incredible, interwoven miracles which we depend on for sustenance and survival. To commune with nature is a wonderful gift, so go out and enjoy all its glory. Be filled with the peace, gratitude and appreciation that being in nature brings.

February 2023
Ah, here it is, February. The month for Valentine’s Day, Cupid’s arrows, boxes of chocolates, red roses, red hearts, “Be Mine” candies and romantic cards that we pay too much for in an effort to express our love for others.
Like many of us, my early life was not filled with complete acceptance and certainly I had no idea how to love myself, or even the notion to do so. But one of the ways I have found comfort and guidance is through music. For example, these inspirational lyrics from the song, “This is Me” by Keala Settle & The Greatest Showman Ensemble, struck a chord for me:
“When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown 'em out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me.”
So, how about this month we “make no apologies” and send a little (or even a lot!) of that love inward? Oh, I know we have all been taught that to love others is most important. But when I treat my inner self, my soul, with love it flows easily and naturally to the world around me. As this song by Fearless Soul tells us, there is no need to search for an outside source to love me, to complete me, I am “Already Enough”:
“I was searching, I was looking, for meaning
I was wandering, desperately trying
Only to see, I have nothing missing.
I am already enough
Everything I need is within me.”
As you plan your Valentine’s celebration, make sure you send a little love to yourself. Fill your well with music and love and acceptance…and a box of chocolates won’t hurt either!!

Every day, as we interact in our world, our thoughts, words and actions create a ripple effect. Often, we can see an immediate response to our actions such as when we hold a door open, thank the cashier or smile at a stranger passing on the street. For instance, a short time ago a friend told me about a stranger offering to help her lift a heavy item into her shopping cart and how grateful she was, how nice it made her feel. But mostly we do not realize the influence our actions may have on a person as they continue their day and interact with others, but also, how we ourselves are affected.
This is wonderfully illustrated in an old “Twilight Zone” episode where a stranger appears at a man’s door late one night and gives him a box with a button on it. All the man has to do is press the button and he will receive $1000. “What happens when I press the button?” the man asks. The stranger tells him that “When you press the button someone far away, someone you don’t even know will die.”
The man struggles with the moral dilemma for a long time but due to his poor finances, he chooses to push the button. Nothing happens for a moment and then suddenly there is once again a knock on his door. The stranger is there and hands the man $1000 and takes the box back.“Wait!” the man shouts, “What happens now?” "The stranger replies, “Now I take the box and give it to the next person. Someone far away, someone you don't even know.”
Although a difficult decision, it was made easier by the man not realizing how his actions would affect others and possibly even echo back to himself. Would he have made the same choice if he had been asked to harm someone standing right in front of him? Most likely not. But when we can’t see the consequences of our actions that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
Back in the 1800’s, one of the original principles of Spiritualism was written as “compensation and retribution for all the good and evil deeds done on earth!” Although that phrasing sounds pretty harsh, it would have been appropriate for the language and understanding of the day. Thankfully, having modernized the principles, it now reads, “the existence of the spiritual law of cause and effect.” But regardless of the wording, the guidance from Divine Spirit is clear; that our thoughts, words and actions have consequences for others, as well as for the evolution of our own soul.

Just recently I sat in a circle of five led by Reverend Dianne Burrough. During the sitting in the power, in an altered state, she brought us these beautiful and timely words from Spirit. With gratitude, we share them with you.
We wish to talk to you today, to reassure you that we surround each and every one of you, both individually and together as a group. We see these difficult times that people are living through. But the chaos that you see is needed, in so many ways, for there to be a new way of thinking and of being. You are in these times for a reason.
And know that our love and our sending of peace to you is continuous. There can be no change without these difficult times at first. Each man and each woman must look to help their neighbors, near and far, and to work together as community.
This change was foretold. This world will not disappear. Love, over fear, will conquer. Peace will arrive again. War will end. It must be so. But all who come to your world, come for experience and to learn. This knowledge, this understanding, will evolve each of your souls.
There is a purpose to all of life. That spirit of love is in all. We ask you to share your healing with those most in need. We will work together with you. We will never leave your side. We are all one in purpose and understanding and caring. Each one of you is loved beyond what you can understand.
Wishing you all love & light now and throughout the coming year!

It’s Thanksgiving time here in Canada (October 10th) and in the U.S. (November 24th). While the Americans have somewhat taken ownership of the holiday as originating in 1621 when the Wampanoag brought food to the struggling pilgrim survivors of the Mayflower, we here in Canada celebrated the first day of giving thanks for the fall harvest nearly four decades earlier. And being somewhat north of the original Plymouth colonists in the U.S., it is perfectly logical that our fall harvests arrive somewhat earlier than our neighbors to the south.
Not all countries throughout the world celebrate “Thanksgiving” specifically, but many have similar celebrations offering thanks for a plentiful fall harvest. But there has long been a call for us to rethink the whole celebration considering the continued history of abuse and genocide of the First Nations People of North America. Just recently, for the last two years, Canadians have just begun to acknowledge this with the Truth and Reconciliation Day (commonly known as Orange Shirt Day) which has become a national holiday on September 30th.
And while any national holiday is wonderful as a day off from work or school, often enjoyed with family and friends getting together, we shouldn’t wait for the holiday to practice giving thanks. I try to remember to do this each morning when I first open my eyes before I get out of bed. Let the quiet of early morning allow you to go within and find those things which you are thankful for in your life. Opening your heart to find those blessings will become a true celebration of thanksgiving every single day.

The concept that the universe is unfolding as it should is difficult to comprehend, and often, almost impossible to accept. Did we really sign a contract to come here and experience such struggle? And is the contract completely in our hands, or are we like a feather, susceptible to every wind that randomly sends us in a different direction?
The author and playwright Thornton Wilder, “Offers us the image of a beautiful tapestry. Looked at from the right side, it is an intricately woven work of art, drawing together threads of different lengths and colors to make up an inspiring picture. But turn the tapestry over, and you will see a hodgepodge of many threads, some short and some long, some smooth and some cut and knotted, going off in different directions. Wilder offers this as his explanation of why good people must suffer in this life. God has a pattern into which all our lives fit. That pattern requires that some lives be twisted, knotted, or cut short, while others extend to impressive lengths, not because one thread is more deserving than another, but simply because the pattern requires it. Looked at from underneath, from our vantage point in life, God’s pattern of reward and punishment seems arbitrary and without design, like the underside of a tapestry. But looked at from outside this life, from God’s vantage point, every twist and knot are seen to have its place in a great design that adds up to a work of art.”
Recently doing a jigsaw puzzle, as I put each piece, I still couldn’t see the whole picture, but none-the-less I knew for certain that that piece belonged there. I feel it is the same for all of us. While on this earth plane we are unable to see the whole picture, but each of us and our experiences is vital in making up the full and complete design.

Years ago, I went to see Eckhart Tolle at a hall in Vancouver. His message was about the fact that we are seldom able to stay in the moment and suffering arises when we live in the past or worry about the future. As it turned out, no one had shown up to unlock the hall for the event. This seemed to many people, myself included, a real problem! But slowly and serenely, Eckhart moved along the lineup of people, saying hello, shaking hands, giving hugs, as if this was all part of the agenda! He perfectly demonstrated his belief that, “A situation needs to be dealt with or accepted. Why make it into a problem?” How marvelous was that!
In his book, “The Power of Now” Eckhart states, “The more you are focused on time – past and future – the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is. Why is it the most precious thing? Because it is the only thing. It’s all there is. The eternal present is the space within which your whole life unfolds, the one factor that remains constant. Life is now. There was never a time when your life was not now, nor will there ever be.”
He discusses going into nature and just being with a tree, a flower, or a blade of grass. Notice that first moment, when you see its stillness, that is the power of the moment, that stillness, before you label it.
But I also suggest that if suddenly a Bengal tiger appeared in the middle of your living room, you would get into the moment real fast! I don’t think many of us would be able to think about anything from the past or worry about what will happen next week! And although, hopefully, most of us have never experienced being threatened by a wild animal, I’m sure many of us have been in a “fight or flight” situation that puts us automatically into the moment.
So, watch for your mind returning into the past or drifting towards the future. Go out into nature, focus on your breath, feel the energy of yourself and everything around you. Be fully present in this moment, fill it with your love and acceptance.

This website is not a platform for discussing politics, as I have little interest in the machinations of the subject. And while it is a wonderful ideal, the separation of church and state seems to most often be an unattainable goal for us humans. Sadly, throughout history, and in my personal experience, politics frequently influences holy spaces and church boards.
But might it be possible to ease the divisiveness in the world if politics and politicians had a more spiritual core belief? Not one religious doctrine over another, but a purely spiritual viewpoint. Marianne Williamson states, “The lack of a vibrant, spiritual conversation is to the detriment of democracy, because spirituality means the path of the heart. God is love. We are children of God. Love is both our identity and our purpose. When we remember that, life works. When we forget that, chaos ensues.”
Would we have so much anguish in the world if we did follow “the path of the heart”? Only through a vibrant and open spiritual discussion can we even vaguely begin to understand each other. It will require us to really listen, especially to those whose view is 180 degrees from our own. After all, the human body has two ears and just one tongue, perhaps so we could use them with that ratio in mind!
This connection to each other is not easy because as Mother Teresa tells us, “I find it easy to give a plate of rice to a hungry person… but to console or to remove the bitterness, anger, and loneliness that comes from being spiritually deprived, that takes a long time.”
And while the world may seem to be reeling from turmoil right now, don't cling to the negativity of others but focus on your own inner light. Take the time to meditate, to pray, to connect with your own humanity and spirituality. For that is where all change begins. And then as you move about in the world remember that every person you meet has their own light and consider your interaction with them to be a truly spiritual experience.

There are times in all our lives when we get a feeling of homesickness. It can occur when we have to be away from home for work, or to take a class, or to care for an ailing friend. At those times we get homesick for our own familiar home, bed, and possessions. While this can be sad or uncomfortable, it is just a psychological desire to be in our own surroundings.
But sometimes we can get a different kind of homesickness, a deep feeling of alienation that comes over us. A feeling that you don’t really belong, you are in a strange place, like being an alien on another planet. This can create an overwhelming feeling of fear and longing. We can’t find a reason, and it can come upon us even when we are in our own home or amongst family and friends.
Quite often, because there is no logical reason for feeling homesick, we try to push it aside, using either a diversion or distraction, and just hope it will go away. This isn’t an experience to fear or deny, it should be embraced and welcomed. It is your Spirit speaking to you, making you aware that you are just a traveler, and this is just a temporary relocation. Having this feeling shows that you are, or are becoming aware, of your true existence as Spirit.
We are reminded that we have taken this physical form in order to go to school, to gain experience and knowledge. Our lessons stay with us and contribute to the wisdom of the Divine Source. We are Spirit! We come from Spirit and we will return to Spirit. When we came here, we left many family, friends, and soul mates on the other side. And since being here on earth, many of our loved ones have gone before us. We can find serenity in the knowledge that they are all there, ready to help and guide us on our earthly journey.
May 2022
Something that we all work really hard to try and achieve is to meditate or sit in the power and connect to the Divine Spirit. But God, the Creator of all things is not a material being or object found at some location. Trying to find God would be akin to a fish swimming around all day trying to find water!
We don’t need to try so hard to find the Divine because Spirit is all around us and within us. And not just in humans, but in all creation, from the tiniest atom to the existence of infinite galaxies. God is in all the mysteries around us; salmon returning to spawn; caterpillars transforming into butterflies; trees creating oxygen for us to breathe; clouds giving us rain; the earth turning on it’s axis and spinning around the sun; as well as a billion other miracles that continually happen, including the miracle of our existence!
The quest is to live a life where we recognize all these wonders around us and know (not just think or believe) but know that we are an integral part of this mosaic. The Divine is in us, and we are in the Divine. So, there is no need to try to connect to Spirit because we already are! By sitting in the power, we access our own light within which opens a connection to each other, our community and to the Divine Spirit of all things which is Love.

A friend, who was going through a difficult time, said to me, “Why does life have to be so hard?” And that is certainly a question we all ask ourselves, God, or the Universe every once in a while, throughout our lives. If we are extremely lucky, we only have to ask it on occasion and not our whole life through.
It reminded me of the scene from the movie, “A League of Their Own” when Jimmy Dugan (played wonderfully by Tom Hanks) says about baseball; “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The ‘hard’ is what makes it great.” What a great movie line and a marvelous metaphor for life.
Because doesn’t that quote really represent the courage it takes for our souls to come here to earth, considering that this physical existence can often be so difficult? Although we can’t understand why life has to be such a struggle for many of us, perhaps the “hard” is what gives our soul purpose and spiritual growth.
I think, if asked, many of us would choose a life free of turmoil, and pain, and suffering, for ourselves and our loved ones. We all strive to make that happen, but very few of us get through life unscathed. We all experience sorrow to a greater or lesser degree, through the loss of a loved one, or suffering through an illness, or even just struggling to make ends meet from day to day.
Why life must be so hard is perhaps an unanswerable question while we remain on earth. All we can do is have faith that there is a divine plan and purpose to every event we experience while we are here.

One of the affirmations in Julia Cameron’s book, “The Artist’s Way” states, “There is a divine plan of goodness for me.” I really like this statement! How awesome to remember that when we come to this earth school, we bring with us an intrinsic sense of goodness. Then as we go through life, we make choices that sometimes lead us away from what we believed to be our destiny. Some roads have been created by our own free will and some have been thrust upon us by circumstances outside our control. Either way, each step we take opens a multitude of various pathways and choices. Just know that all paths lead us back home to the Divine Spirit that is Love. Always give yourself the time to sit quietly or walk in nature and tune into that voice within that will guide your path and allow you to access your inner “divine goodness.”

I believe as I flip the calendar to 2022, that although we have perhaps moved past the fear of Coronavirus itself, the uncertainty that it keeps bringing remains. We believed it was coming to an end last summer as we were told that it was under control, we had it licked, things were opening up and returning to normal. But the virus had other ideas and brought Omicron to us with a vengeance. So, we keep looking to anyone who sounds like they have all the answers.
We want to be told by someone in authority what is in the future for us. Is that why we so often find it easy to follow whatever the “truth” of the day is on the news and social media? We are so uncomfortable with the uncertainty that this pandemic has brought us. Joan Chittister states, “Certitude is a very tricky thing. It is so often wrong and so often loud about it.” How clearly evident that has become in today’s divisive world!
Have you recently heard anyone say, “I’m not sure” or “As far as we know” or “That’s something to think about”? Everyone from politicians, newscasters, social media “influencers”, and certainly weather forecasters, always seem to speak with a certainty that is usually unwarranted. They speak with an appealing certainty that is calming to the masses but leaves no room for individual questioning, insight, and spiritual growth. As Voltaire once said a long time ago, “Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.”
Like many of you, I have searched for answers to questions of a mundane nature; what the weather will be tomorrow, what clothes to wear, order soup or salad; but also, guidance for life changing decisions; what job to take, who to date, or where to live. We look for answers by reading tea leaves, pulling a tarot card, asking a magic eight ball, swinging a pendulum, and while these are all valuable tools for guidance and insight, they are not definitive answers for making life choices.
Because life is uncertainty! Isn’t that really what being human is about? Our challenge is to live in the present moment and keep our minds and hearts open to whatever possibilities life brings. Because our faith is the strongest not when we cling tightly to an absolute certainty, but when we can sit in the discomfort of the unknown. So, let’s literally, and figuratively, flip the calendar, ridding ourselves of 2021, bringing in a new year filled with love, healing and understanding for our world and for each other.

December 2021
Ah, once again it’s Christmas time. Once again having to decide how to put up enough Christmas décor that I don’t appear to be a Scrooge, but not buy so much tinsel and lights and ribbons and bows and gift wrap and angels and ornaments that I have no place to store it all come January.
I abhor the commercialism of it all and struggle every year to find a balance in all the celebration. Do I focus on the nativity and the birth of the Savior or the jolly guy that flies around in a sleigh, breaking into homes, to deliver toys made by elves? Hmm, that’s a tough decision, I am left every year wondering if there could possibly be some other option.
In the spirit of the season, I do find myself wanting to give, give to friends, to family. But always the question arises; what is the right gift? What is the right amount; spend too much and drain my savings account or too little and appear to be cheap? If I listen to the commercials that bombard us this time of year, I know I am lacking in stuffing people’s stockings with the appropriate amount of electronics, gadgets, knickknacks, and doodads that will be broken and thrown into the landfills within three months time. Is it any wonder so many of us don’t feel the “joy of the season” but just the stress it brings?
Could it be possible to think about giving and celebrating in a different way? Could we imagine giving a smile or a thoughtful comment to a friend, an acquaintance, a fellow worker, or a stranger? Could we watch and take note of when a stranger does that for us? Take some time each day of December (or longer if you are an early shopper!) and write down all the people you are grateful for, all the things that inspire you, all the things that strengthen your faith. Then put all these things in a box, wrap it up, put a bow on top for you to open on Christmas Day or any other special day of celebration.
For loved ones, make note of all the things they do and say that have meant something to you. The times you have had a laugh or a cry together, things they say or do that have made a difference in your life. They might not even know how important they are to you. Can you imagine what a wonderful gift this would be for them, but also for you too?
I want to express my gratitude to everyone who takes the time to log onto my website. It has brought me great joy to see all the places around the globe that are joining in. And no matter what your celebration may be at any time of the year, I wish it to be filled with peace, love, and harmony. The knowledge that so many of you share your light with the world is something I will put in my gift box to open every single day!

I have spent my whole life trying! Trying to be smart, helpful, industrious, dependable. Trying to be a good daughter, sister, partner, friend, worker. Always trying to be everything to everyone, trying to be perfect. But Brene Brown states, “Perfectionism is a twenty-ton shield that we lug around thinking it will protect us when, in fact, it’s the thing that’s really preventing us from taking flight.”
Now, at this age, I have come to realize that I don’t need to keep trying, none of us do. Oh, I don’t mean I am going to throw my hands up in the air or stop giving my all to everything I do. But life is too short to spend it striving for someone else’s version of perfection. And who decides what this model of perfectionism looks like?
We don’t have to try, because we are all where, when, what, and how we should be. We are imperfectly perfect just as we are. Imperfect souls doing the best we can every single day. To be able to let go, listen to that quiet inner voice of truth and love, telling you what a perfect soul you already are, always have been, always will be.
Anna Quindlen states, “ The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself.” So, stop trying to be something and just be. Sit quietly, let that beautiful light within you shine, then go out and share it with the entire world.

This is called, “She let go” by Reverend Sapphire Rose.
She let go, without a thought or word, she let go. She let go of the fear she let go of judgments, she let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the right reasons wholly and completely without hesitation or worry. She just let go. She didn't ask anyone for advice. She didn't read a book on how to let go. She didn't search the Scriptures, she just let go. She let go from all the memories that held her back, she let go of all the anxiety that kept her from moving forward, she let go of planning and all the calculations about how to do it just right. She didn't promise to let go. She didn't journal about it; she didn't write the projected date in her day timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn't check the weather report or reference directly her horoscope or astrological, she just let go. She didn't analyze whether she should let go. She didn't call her friends to discuss the matter, she didn't do a five-step spiritual mind treatment, she didn't call the prayer line, she didn't utter one word, she just let go. No one was around when it happened, there was no applause or congratulations, no one thanked her or praised her, no one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from the sky, she just let go. There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn't good, and it wasn't bad, it just was what it was, and it is just that. In the space of letting go, she let it all be, a small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her, and the sun and the moon, shone forevermore. She let go.

September 2021
I was recently reminded about the poem, “Desiderata” written by Max Ehrmann. He wrote it in the 1920’s and it is incredible that one hundred years later we can still see the wisdom in many of his words. I was particularly drawn to the following excerpts:
“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to others.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive God to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul, with all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”
I did consider omitting the last line that asked us to “be cheerful”, easier during happier days, but difficult for us to achieve during times of struggle. But the last line of the poem, “strive to be happy” is appropriate since the word Desiderata is translated from Latin to mean “things desired.” To find peace, love, and happiness with one another, are certainly things to be desired right now!

Okay, so I have been receiving all sorts of messages lately about letting go of the illusion that I have control over events and people. To learn acceptance of any given situation and trust that Spirit has a plan and will guide us along our journey is a very difficult thing to master. Especially during this pandemic, we are being given the opportunity to learn about acceptance and doing the best we can in the moment. As Cheryl Crow sings, “It’s not having what you want, it’s wanting what you’ve got.”
So, here is a wonderful story by Jeanne Burd that I think really illustrates this point.
There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. Well, she said, I think I'll braid my hair today. So, she did, and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. Hmm, she said, I think I'll part my hair down the middle today. So, she did, and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror, and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. Well, she said, today I'm going to wear my hair in a ponytail. So, she did, and she had an awesome day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. Yay, she exclaimed, I don't have to fix my hair today.
Attitude is everything! Our attitude is the determining factor in how we accept any given situation, whether that be the pandemic or our hair style choices. It is all about perception and having faith that we are being guided and supported by our loved ones in Spirit.

Dr. Wayne Dyer famously said, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” I find this quantum physics principal fascinating; it is so difficult to understand in its simplicity! To realize there is scientific basis that, as energy, we affect everything around us. So, how we look, feel, and think actually changes that thing we are looking at. (Still trying to make that work on reducing my waistline!!)
But often I have read a book for the third or fourth time and found something completely “new” to me within its pages. I know that nothing has been changed in the book since the previous reading, but perhaps I had reached a point in my life where the message could now resonate. I needed to experience some previous lessons in order to build a base of understanding so that I could fully comprehend the truth of what I was now being shown.
One thing I do know for sure is that the universe is always determined to continue sending us messages. And our helpers in Spirit are very patient, loving, and supportive of us and the lessons we have come here to learn.

You are unique! We hear it all the time. Every guru, therapist, life coach and self- appointed spiritual teacher will say that we are unique. They tell you to feel your inner power, allow your own light to shine, love and accept who you were born to be. A near impossible proposition when we are bullied and coerced into being a carbon copy of the “cool kid in school”.
Can we really believe in our hearts that we are unique? How can we, when every advertiser and social media platform is bombarding us with messages that we are not okay unless we drink this particular beer, own that certain car, live only in this neighborhood, wear the latest fashion, and possess the latest brain numbing, electronic gadgets and spend hours attached to them. Why do we succumb to this pressure that society puts on us to be like everyone else? I don’t even know who the “everyone” else is!
And to say that you are only worthwhile if you have a certain skin color, speak a certain language, love a certain way, or follow a certain religion, is honestly the most arcane of beliefs. To believe that this body, this skin, this coat that we wear to encase our soul, is all that we are and makes one of us better than another is simply ludicrous. Through the ages, and continuing today, we have blindly followed the teachings of men who wrote biblical or constitutional laws centuries ago. And these laws, written predominantly by white men, were often influenced by greed, racism, misogyny, and ignorance. We should be so far past this, after all, it is 2021!
We need to realize that we are actually, and technically, unique, like snowflakes. In all of eternity there never was and there never will be another you. There is no need to attempt to imitate someone else’s belief of perfection, because we already are perfect; perfect souls created from the Divine Spirit which is Love. So, instead of being ashamed that we don’t adhere to somebody else’s image of what and who we should be, honor your individuality, your uniqueness. As Lady Gaga tells us, “I'm beautiful in my way, 'cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track, baby, I was born this way. Hey!”

Once when I was much younger (and didn’t know any better) I moved to a city that had an extremely cold winter climate. There was lots of snow and many days that were crisp, brisk and teeth-chattering. One thing I remember about those harsh winter days was how people greeted each other. There was a bond between you and others who were foolhardy enough to venture out into the below freezing weather.
And in an emergency like frozen pipes bursting, iced up trees crashing into your house or any other such calamity, people were always ready to jump in to help. I am not sure why I originally moved there, but it was this sense of community that I became connected to. And no one ever asked your religion, gender, race, or beliefs. The only thing you asked was, how can I help?
I have always believed that times of crisis bring out the best in humans; and we are witnessing many instances of this from all our brave front line workers, not just occasionally, but for well over a year now. The question is, what can the rest of us do, if not to help, at least not hinder their efforts.
We are divinely lucky to live in a free country where we are entitled to our thoughts and beliefs, but that has never given anyone the right to force that on another. If you do not wish to wear a mask, great, go for it. But do not try to enter an establishment that requires you to wear one, then start screaming or spitting in someone’s face. And don’t bully others who have the desire to wear a mask, social distance or get a vaccination.
It is mostly just about tolerance and a willingness to help each other to defeat the Coronavirus. So, like in a harsh winter climate we need to all come together. Because if we can’t come together during a pandemic and find acceptance of each other, when will we?

I was looking back over messages I have recorded of Reverend Dianne Burrough and found this one from early 2020, just days after Covid had been declared a pandemic. After sitting in the power, she brought through these inspirational words from Spirit. How blessed we are to be shown the love and support that we have from Spirit.
“We are surrounding each and every soul on your planet right now with love and compassion. What you are experiencing is not what we ordained, but it will now be a chance for your world to come together. To put aside division and have a chance at understanding the importance of community, and what will be needed in the coming years to save your world. And we know each one of you will play your part. Your ancestors on our side stand side by side in their support, practicing loving kindness. Unity in your world and our world is imperative. Out of chaos is a chance now to change, working together. In every generation these opportunities arise to advance the consciousness of mankind, moving it forward. Know that those returning home are safe, as all of you will be. These times call for reaching out and communicating with each other and with your source. We are sending much healing to your world now and using the energy of your prayers and thoughts to help, we blanket you in love. It is a period of reflection for many, a time to slow down and reach out. The power that supports all of you is immeasurable. While you take this time alone, we are able to join close and not be in competition with the noise and activity in your material world. It is the start of a transformation that many predicted, not overnight, but gently moving forward.”
And although we continue to struggle with the pandemic, these words bring just as much comfort and inspiration as they did over one year ago. To know that all our loved ones in Spirit are guiding and watching over us. That each and every one of us play a role in bringing love and unity to this world. And when we can once again physically connect with family, friends, and community, what changes can we make to help the evolution of ourselves and the world?

Around the world and throughout history, people have celebrated as Spring has emerged to push away the winter cold. There are many festivals that honor Spring’s arrival and the promise of renewal it brings. For example; Holi, the Indian festival to celebrate Spring where participants cover each other with brightly colored powder; or Songkran in Thailand, which is a water throwing and splashing version of Holi; or the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan where they celebrate Hanami, the tradition of picnicking under the cherry trees; or certain places in Switzerland that signal the arrival of Spring and the end of winter by burning the effigy of a giant snowman named Boogg; or our strange tradition of a bunny that lays, decorates and hides colorful eggs for children to find! (I still don’t understand how a bunny manages to lay Easter eggs, shouldn’t it be a chicken?!)
During this time of the pandemic, we have seen so many of our celebrations either severely restricted or cancelled completely. But while we can’t be together with family, friends, or community, let us honor these festivals and celebrations, by feeling the joy within our hearts. So, send all your love out to the universe for healing of this pandemic and bring the rejuvenation that spring signals.
Eventually we will be able to gather in our large groups, but until that time take yourself outside and witness the glorious festival of spring and the hope of renewal that the season brings. Breathe deeply and access the feeling of joy that Spirit is always around you and supporting you. Stay safe everyone.

A common discussion these days is not necessarily the importance of what is happening around you, but the importance of how you perceive it. Robert Kirkman, a writer and producer, wrote the following marvellous quote for one of his characters; “The pessimist looks down and hits his head. The optimist looks up and loses his footing. The realist looks forward and adjusts his path accordingly.” I know that in my life I have, at times, either hit my head, tripped over myself, or quite possibly both, at the same time!
So many things determine how we look at an experience. Through a combination of upbringing, education, and life experiences we have all developed a set of opinions. And certainly our mood on any given day can determine whether we look at a situation as a glass half full or a glass half empty scenario!
I don’t know of any other time in our history when we have been so tested to keep our hearts and minds open, and to “look forward and adjust our path accordingly.” To hold the course, while we wait on the arrival of the vaccine, herd immunity or some miracle that would just make Covid disappear.
But like the discussion about vaccines, we are constantly being pulled into a divisive argument by social media and pundits to “pick a side.” And not just about vaccines, but mask wearing, social distancing, when to reopen, the effects of humidity on my sourdough starter, wearing white after Labour Day, and if UFOs really exist!
But somehow, we need to find a middle ground for some of these discussions, or at least respect a person’s right to their opinion. The young poet, Mattie Stepanek, hoped that one day the world would be able to pray together, differently, but together. He said, “People are fighting over being different. But they don’t need to be the same. That’s the beauty. We are a mosaic of gifts.”
So, while it is important to keep living in the moment, let’s make sure we keep our gaze forward to that wonderful day when we can get together in person and share a coffee, a chat, and a big hug. Keep faith, it will be here before we know it!

Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre - February 7, 2021
Now, I have often heard Spiritualists, including our Ministers Dianne and Nicole, begin a prayer with the words; Divine Source, which is Love. A beautiful thought, a concept sorely needed during these trying pandemic days, but one that is hard to comprehend.
The book, “Abu Talks” states, “God, which is Love, is transcendental, which means that we shall not fathom its depth or measure its height or span its breadth. It is the essence of simplicity, and yet, profound beyond imagining.” And because this concept of God is so profound, it has always been difficult to visualize a specific image.
But as humans, throughout history and across beliefs, there has always been a desire to personify the Divine. So, when you think about a divine source, what does it look like to you? Some may see God as a benevolent grey- haired man with a long flowing beard sitting on a throne up in the clouds, or possibly as Buddha, a smiling, rotund entity sitting eternally cross-legged; and let’s not forget about February’s iconic image of love, the little cherub flying around shooting arrows at all of us!!
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross states, “Love is our experience of the Divine, of sacred holiness.” Spiritualism teaches us that the Divine can be found in every aspect of our universe, in nature, in family, in friends, and in every person, place and thing that we experience.
So, rather than seeing an image for the Divine, try to feel or sense the Divine within you, and around you. That you came from love and will return to love, are truths we can hold onto as we send out our prayers during these difficult times. Know that we are all a part of that Divine Source which is Love.

While we are still trying to hold on and get through this pandemic, there is many who have seen the spiritual lessons that can be learned from this experience. In the book, “Falling from Grace”, Adyashanti discusses that, historically, only a small minority of priests, monks, or other mystics had the ability to access Spirit. These individuals were inspired or instructed to dedicate their lives to a profound study of the nature of God and the universe.
While these dedicated religious individuals certainly still exist today, as Spiritualists, we are aware that this connection to the Divine is within all of us. And it does not require spending every waking moment meditating or sitting in the power for us to achieve this. (Although, these days, we certainly have an abundance of time!!) But it is a good opportunity for us to let go of always “keeping busy” and to allow ourselves a few moments to investigate our own spiritual evolvement. Because in today’s world, especially going through this pandemic, we are being called upon by Spirit to look within.
It is interesting that being in isolation for such a long period of time has taught us how vital it is to be connected; connected to all creatures on earth, connected to each other and connected to Spirit. So, while spiritual leaders can help guide us through these difficult times, it is up to all of us to access our individual link to the Divine and be a part of awakening our consciousness on a global scale.

THIS COVID CHRISTMAS 2020
This Covid Christmas, how can we cope,
Know we will get through it, with faith, love, and hope.
But to celebrate Covid Christmas, I just don’t have the tools,
More appropriate this year, was Halloween or April Fools!
So strange has been this year, with toilet paper to stockpile,
New things we had to learn distancing, face masks, hand-washing all the while.
This year of self isolation, and no service on Sundays, oh what a trip,
There’s been no workshops, no messages, no day of mediumship.
This year of Covid, our days filled with so much tedium,
No Service available, we need 1-800-call-a-medium!
And don’t fear Christmas dinner, because there is nothing to dread,
Just have a turkey sandwich, on your homemade sourdough bread.
Although not in person, the congregation is still here,
Be kind, be calm, and be safe, we will make it through this Covid year.
Let’s bring hope to the world, and see what we can do,
Bring hope to the world, it starts with me and you.
For Christmas is not, to be found on a store shelf,
You will find the true Spirit, when you look inside of yourself.
Just believe that you are Santa, feel the gifts, feel the joy,
The wonders, and the miracles, are better than any Christmas toy.
And so, as I say every year at Christmas time –
Have hope, love, and faith, feel your soul’s shining light,
My cup filled with gratitude, I toast you all a good night.
This Covid Christmas, how can we cope,
Know we will get through it, with faith, love, and hope.

I think maybe life is not about whether something happens or not, it is usually the way we look at it. Especially now during Coronavirus. Is my glass half empty or half full? What is on the flip side of the coin? Is there a silver lining? Just some way to look at events from a different angle.
This is certainly not easy when we go through struggles, such as what is happening with the pandemic. For many months now we have been unable to have celebrations and socialize in a manner that we have always taken for granted. And now, with it being October, there is discussion about if it is possible to safely celebrate Halloween.
But the other October celebration is Thanksgiving. And while we have had to come to terms with most of 2020 being cancelled, I am wondering if we can possibly still give thanks? Oh, I know, we won’t be able to have that huge extended family get together over turkey and stuffing, hams and yams, mashed potatoes and gravy, and all the love and squabbling that families often to do!
But maybe if we sit quietly, within ourselves, we can find what we are lucky and grateful for. And although it will be difficult, can we look at this year from a different angle, a different perspective? And hopefully Spirit will allow us many future holidays and celebrations which I am sure we will all have a new appreciation for.

I heard someone talking the other day and they were advising a person who was struggling with isolation during Coronavirus that they had to be “tough”. Many of us grew up with our parents, peers and society telling us that very thing; being tough would give us the strength to see ourselves through hard times and the struggles that life brings.
So, I started to ponder on all the ways we are told to be tougher, always with comments like; don’t be so sensitive; you need to grow a thicker skin; toughen up; stop crying; hold it inside. And misguided methods of instruction; like being thrown into the deep end of the pool. “Sink or swim” is what we are told. Or being told to just “get over it” to solve a fear of heights, or fear of the dark, or fear of people who tell you to “get over it”!
And one of the most ridiculous expressions of all; “No pain, no gain”. The kind of mentality that encourages us to push until exhaustion, in order for something to be beneficial. The mistaken thought that the only way anything is worthwhile is through mental, physical, or emotional agony. I think maybe that expression was created by a chiropractor looking for business!
All these things may or may not make us tough, but it is certainly not the way to make us strong. Because being tough and being strong are two different things entirely. In her book, The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron states, “Treating yourself like a precious object will make you strong.” It is essential that we honor our soul with love; and develop a regimen of inner self care.
Believe that you are a precious being, caring and tending to your body, mind, and soul. Let go of negative, restrictive thoughts. Strength is not created by being tough, but by being good to yourself. That is what will get us through these challenging times that we are now facing. Just love and be gentle with the divine light that is you.

Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre Reading – August 16, 2020
On August 6th, my aunt celebrated her ninety-third birthday. She is my mother’s twin sister. But my mother died of breast cancer thirteen years ago shortly after turning eighty. Now, the twins didn’t have identical lives, far from it, and there were times when they often didn’t get to see each other. But none the less, whenever they did show up at a family event, they were invariably wearing a similar outfit! Most people couldn’t tell them apart and I still see mannerisms and hear expressions from my aunt that remind me so much of my mother.
I love my aunt but have to admit that, at times, I have certainly questioned why my mother got cancer and died thirteen years ago, while her identical twin, split from the same egg, carries on at ninety-three. Without malice, without bitterness, but questioning all the same. Is it my place to search for the logic or reasoning? The soul lessons for each of them is really none of my business. I question their fate solely because of how it is affecting me.
Because when we lose someone we love, when we witness a tragedy or an injustice, we question, what is the purpose for this? It is extremely difficult during hard times to wonder about the divine plan of it all. To accept that the universe is unfolding exactly as it should is often hard to comprehend. The only thing I can hold onto is the knowledge that there was, is, and always will be, a divine purpose for all of us to exist, as well as every creature in the universe.
Yes, everyone and everything in the universe has a purpose, of that I am certain. And that purpose is way more than just to survive, to live a long life. It is often unclear what our purpose is, and how our actions ripple through time and space. But we don’t have to know. We are here to learn, to give our soul the experience it requires and to carry that wisdom back with us to the other side.
Trusting there is a Divine Plan when we experience joy and happiness is simple, but it requires a great deal of faith during the times of struggle. Maybe the only reason we can’t see the big picture is because we are a piece of a giant jigsaw puzzle, sometimes unsure of where we fit in, but vital to making up a beautiful completed picture of the universe.

Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre Reading – August 2, 2020
I read an article last week about a doctor “proving” to people that face masks don’t hinder the flow of oxygen. And although some people may have pre-existing conditions that make it a challenge, wearing a face mask is not dangerous to your health. So, to prove this he hooked a sensor onto his finger and showed a monitor displaying his oxygen level and heart rate. Then he put on a mask, and the readings didn’t change, they stayed exactly the same.
What I found interesting was a comment by a viewer that said the doctor proved nothing because the cord connecting the sensor on his finger to the monitor wasn’t visible. Unless they could be shown the cord linking one end to the other, they weren’t convinced. Now isn’t that the perfect analogy for the difference between scientific proof and faith!
Quite often I hear, “I will believe it when I see it”, but even when given a convincing display of evidence, humans choose to see some other reality. If it ever happens that science discovers a method to link our world to other dimensions, will that make every human a believer? Or will there always be doubters?
Just as sometimes we are unable to feel our connection with spirit, we don’t have to see it to know that it is there. Because isn’t that the true nature of belief? Believing doesn’t require science, doctors, or professionals to give us the answers. The answers are within, the connection to spirit is within, the belief in the power of the Divine is within.
It has been difficult during the pandemic to maintain the belief that the world, and everyone in it, is okay. It is easy to lose faith in any form of Divinity. Just take the time to sit quietly and feel your link to everything in the universe. Know that Spirit is always there, watching, guiding, and supporting us, even when we fail to see the cord linking us to them.

Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre Reading – July 5, 2020
Boy, I haven’t used so many plastic gloves since working at that deli a couple of years ago! Putting them on and taking them off for every little thing that you might touch when out in public is such an annoyance. So, when I needed to perform a small task, such as using an ATM, it seemed a ridiculous waste, in both money and unnecessary garbage, to put on a glove covering my whole hand, when all I needed was the use of one finger!
But someone gave me the idea of simply using a small bandage to cover that one finger. What a brilliant suggestion! I loaded my pockets with Band-Aids and headed out to the bank. I stood before the ATM, my right index finger safely and cheaply covered, and proudly started pushing the screen to enter my PIN. And nothing happened! At first, I was sure that there was some malfunction with the machine, we all know that quite frequently they have issues. But then I thought to try an unprotected finger and it worked. The touch screen needed my touch to be effective.
Well, after thinking about this for awhile, I started to realize how vital the sense of touch is, not just with electronics, but more importantly for us humans. To touch with the hug of an embrace, the touch of sitting quietly and listening to someone, to touch others with our heart and mind and soul. The touch of really looking into someone’s eyes and seeing and accepting them for who they are, like in the movie Avatar, when they greeted each other by saying, “I see you”.
Covid-19 has given me the opportunity to look at how I connect with other people. To take the time to say thank you to a grocery worker, chat with a neighbor, take a call from a friend or relative and really listen. To not be so busy with “things to do” that I forget to take the time to connect with the people I share this world with. Nothing like four months of self isolation to get you thinking about how wonderful it is to be in touch with others!

Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre – June 21, 2020
I read a quote the other day that said, “Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food and torment their teachers.” I thought about parents, having the added challenge of home schooling their children, while coping with all the other stresses of Coronavirus.
The article went on to talk about how they wished for a return to the loving era of days gone by. But isn’t this just a catch phrase for politicians and leaders who think they have an answer for all the chaos of these times; something to tell disillusioned people who long for a more peaceful world?
Impatiently we keep asking, when can we start eating in a restaurant, return to school, go to a movie, get a haircut, see a concert, have a Sunday Service? Can’t we return things to ‘normal’, get back to how things used to be? I think we tend to remember years gone by with a false sense of nostalgia, which is defined as, “a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past.”
This has been such a difficult time for the world. But throughout history, strife has very often brought about positive changes. It has been a reality that people have lost their jobs, their families, their homes, and sadly, some have lost their lives before the world realizes it needs a shift in the way we connect to each other.
I don’t think the answer is to look behind us and turn the clock back. Thousands of people around the world are raising their voices in protest of “the good old days”. And many young people are leading the way forward, hoping to create a world where everyone can thrive and survive. A world that is ruled by love, compassion, and understanding instead of greed, anger, and hatred. Let’s not talk about how things used to be, but let’s start a whole new conversation. We can do this!
Oh, by the way, the quote about children being tyrants, it was by Socrates, around the year 400 BC! We have been looking to the past for answers far too long. Let’s open our hearts and allow change to happen.

Love Means - Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre Reading May 17, 2020
Like most of us, with time on our hands during self isolation, I’ve been doing lots of channel surfing. I am finding that often an old, familiar movie now has a totally different meaning. And I am not certain whether it is because it has become dated, or I have!! One example is the 1970 tragically romantic movie, “Love Story”, which won an Oscar, five Golden Globes and is noted for the quotable line, “Love means never having to say you’re sorry”.
First off, how un-Canadian is that!! Who would we be if we couldn’t say sorry? I object to it just out of principle! But does the quote mean if you love someone, whatever happens, you don’t need to apologize? For anything? Whether you stepped on their toe or if you broke their heart? If you never had to say you were sorry, it would imply that you don’t have to own up to your words or actions.
But looking at it now through time, age and hopefully a bit of wisdom, I think they got the line backwards. I think it should read, “Love means you are able to say you are sorry”. One of our Seven Principles of Spiritualism is ‘Personal Responsibility’. We are personally responsible for our words and deeds. If our actions cause harm to another, we should be able to apologize, from the heart, and mean it. Because that is love.
Also, another one of our principles, ‘The Spiritual Law of Cause and Effect’ comes into play because making amends acknowledges that you are aware of your actions and their possible consequences. Realizing that what we say and do causes a ripple effect on those close to you, in your community and out into the universe. By paying attention to our actions we are taking care of our loved ones, hospital staff, caregivers, and all front-line workers. Because that is love.
The magic of the Seven Principles is that they can help us interpret our world through the lens of Spiritualism. So, watch for those old, familiar movies or books and see if they look different to you. Realize that time and life experience can often change our perception of people, events or even an old movie quote!
And, as our wonderful Doctor Bonnie Henry says, “Be calm, be kind, be safe”.

Parents Wisdom - Two World Spiritualist Centre May 3, 2020
The older I get, the more often I find myself looking back to the wisdom of my parents in order to help navigate the challenges that life brings. Through the years I have come to realize that they were a lot smarter than I thought they were when I was younger! And although my parents weren’t religious in any way, some of their insight into life was downright spiritual in its essence.
So, as the coronavirus has brought us the luxury of time, I have been reminiscing about many things my parents said or did, that I can apply to this unusual time we are all going through. Even though I am positive that my parents wouldn’t have tolerated self isolation (especially from their grandchildren!) I am reminded of some of their catch phrases that I can apply to my current situation.
One time when I was about twelve years old, I was in a bowling league and my team had done well enough to compete in the BC finals. With the tournament several weeks away, I was filled with excitement and nervous anticipation about the event. When I told Dad that I wished the day was here, he said to me simply, “Don’t wish your life away”. At the time I didn’t recognize those words for the wisdom that they contained.
On the other hand, years later, when I asked my mother about how she managed to make it through the pain of childbirth, she responded by saying, “All I focused on was what incredible joy it would be once all the pain was over”. Once again, I failed to recognize the powerful wisdom in her words.
Now, as we go through this time in our lives, I remember both instances and realize that my parents were giving me two completely opposite philosophies on how to survive a difficult situation. Dads’ philosophy was to live in the moment, enjoy what was happening right now, even if you want to be somewhere else in the future. Moms’ strength lay in her ability to make it through any pain or difficulty by focusing solely on what the future would be.
Well, what the heck! Thank you, Mom and Dad, for your insights, but what am I supposed to do now? Do I live day to day, OR do I just hang on and wait for the future to be brighter? Who’s to say what the best approach is to deal with our emotions during this challenging time? Do what is right for you. As for me, I am doing everything I can, day by day, to treasure every moment that life has to offer. But, honestly, I am looking forward with giddy excitement to the day we can all once again gather for Sunday Celebration…I’m just sayin’!

Coronavirus Vs Divine Spirit - Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre April 5, 2020
Coronavirus was boasting about its power and influence, making the following claims…
But unlike you, I didn’t just appear out of nowhere, I have been in existence for all eternity. You may think you are unstoppable, but you will eventually become a footnote in human history. And while you may change human behavior in the short term, I have been witness to a slow but steady movement toward change for the better; people reaching out to support one another; setting aside their own needs to help a neighbor; striving to bring the best out in themselves and each other.
So, while you boast about the influence you may have over humans in their physical form, I will continue to support and guide the universe towards what really matters; that is the power attained through spiritual wisdom, peace and above all else, love.
Coronavirus was boasting about its power and influence, making the following claims…
- I am most powerful because of my invisibility; many humans refuse to see me, hear me or feel me.
- I am most powerful because many humans try to ignore my existence but fail to see the evidence of me all around them.
- I am most powerful because humans have such a fear of the unknown.
- I am most powerful because I create fear and panic, causing arguments between friends, communities and nations.
- I am most powerful because I suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
- I am most powerful because I can’t be stopped, no matter what humans do.
- I am most powerful because of the way my existence changes human behavior.
But unlike you, I didn’t just appear out of nowhere, I have been in existence for all eternity. You may think you are unstoppable, but you will eventually become a footnote in human history. Cause and Effect - Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre March 1, 2020
One of the Seven Principles of Spiritualism that Elizabeth just shared with us is The Existence of the Spiritual Law of Cause and Effect. It asks us to think about our actions and the effects they cause. I’m sure many of us at one time or another have felt that what we think, feel or do can’t possibly matter. In the scheme of all eternity, our actions may seem insignificant, but that may be only because often we are unable to see how our actions can ripple through time and space.
I was recently watching a show about ceramics. The artisan started with a large block of clay that he first pounded with his hands in order to make it soft. He said that as he worked, it was important to consciously set his intention for what he envisioned. As he manipulated the clay, I noticed that the imprint of his hand was going into the block, which he eventually formed into a large ceramic plate. His fingerprints, his DNA, his intention had created something that was useful and beautiful.
Isn’t that what Spiritualism and the principle of cause and effect are all about? To make the conscious intention about how the thoughts and actions we perform in our daily lives can leave an imprint on everything and everyone we come in contact with. Whether or not we can see the effect our actions cause, know that what we do leaves our fingerprints on everything around us: on all the plants and animals, the environment, along with others, both here on earth and those in spirit.
But also think of yourself and how your actions influence the progress and evolution of your own soul. I know she isn’t fond of being quoted, but in her book, our Reverend Dianne states, “Each day you are making a place for yourself in Spirit; by everything you do, by what you think, how you live your life, and how you interact with others.”
So, go out there, hold a door open for someone, smile at a stranger, let someone cut in line, and be the change you want to see in the world. Know that your actions do matter; because what you think, feel and do creates ripples that extend further than you can ever imagine.

New Years Resolutions – Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre January 2020
So, here we are, deep into the first month of the year 2020. All the Christmas décor has been put away, back into boxes and bins and returned to the garage or attic or storage closet. Gifts have already been forgotten, broken or exchanged for something that you really like!
We have recovered from the hangovers felt after holiday partying; hangovers from food and drink and lack of sleep. It is nineteen days in on all the New Years resolutions you promised. Yes, you said, again, this year was absolutely, without a doubt, the year for eating less, exercising more, judging less, meditating more, and generally doing all the things that never seem to get done!
Now into January, the children are back to school, the adults back to the routine of work, family and day to day life; these resolutions have once again been shelved. What do we do with this? Usually, if you are anything like me, I figure I have two options: 1) I make a solemn promise to Spirit and myself that next year will be absolutely, positively different! I will keep my New Years resolutions, for sure! And, at the age of 64, I’ll let you guess how many years I have done that! OR 2) I make an absolute, solemn promise to Spirit and myself to never, ever make New Years resolutions again! And, at the age of 64, I’ll let you guess how many years I have done that!
But this year, it occurred to me that I have another option. I am going to make tons of New Years Resolutions. Yes, I am going to eat heathier, laugh more, clear out closets, help strangers, go for walks in the forest, and practice daily a closer connection to Spirit. To do all the things that I think I can’t do and even lots of things that I never thought I would do!
And I’m going to write them all down on a list and cross them off after I have attempted to succeed or fail at them. And I intend to fail at a whole bunch of them. And then I’m not going to wait for next year, but I will keep making, and breaking, them all year long. For it is never in the success that we grow, but in the attempt to succeed where we gain knowledge, love and understanding for ourselves and for others.
After all, isn’t the year 2020 the perfect time to have clear vision for ourselves? What joy it would be to overcome the fears that have always held us back. So, go ahead, give all your hearts desires a try; that’s all Spirit ever asks of us, is that we try! And know that when we do, we are supported by the love of friends, family, community and Spirit.
The Amazing Dung Beetle - Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre August 2019
I would like to talk today about all the incredible mystery and wonder that our Universe holds. I am going to do that by telling you about an amazing little creature called the African Dung Beetle. For those of you unfamiliar with this bug, it is a beetle that finds piles of animal dung, rolls a little piece into a ball and pushes it all the way home to store for food.
Now, unbelievably, there was this bug scientist who was specializing in the study of the nocturnal movements of these beetles. She noticed that on both a moon lit night, and a clear night without a moon, the beetles had no problem rolling their food back home. But, when there was no moon and complete cloud cover, the beetles would just wander around aimlessly.
She put forth the theory that these insects were navigating by following the stars in the Milky Way! Another scientist wanted to test this theory, so he set up an experiment inside a planetarium. With the Milky Way projected onto the ceiling, he tracked the beetles’ movements as lines on a computer, they followed a distinctly organized, straight pattern. Then when he turned off the night sky, the computer printout of the bugs’ path was frenzied and disorganized as they wandered everywhere.
How fantastic is that?! So, these little bugs, pushing around a ball of poo, are actually connecting to the universe in a way that most of us would find difficult. Sometimes I can barely find my way around the mall, let alone if you put me out in the woods! I was so struck, reading this article, by the absolute miracle these beetles are. (Not to mention the fascinating humans that were studying them!)
I started to think about other incredible phenomenon; like a salmon, after years in the ocean, finding its way back to spawn; a birds’ ability to know when and where to migrate; a sunflower turning its head to follow the sun; or the intricate patterns of a snowflake, individually unique (just like we are). These are only a few simple examples here on Earth, we can’t even begin to understand the wonders in the world of Spirit! The point is to be aware of all the beautiful and miraculous things that surround us everyday. Some can be seen, some are unseen, and some, we are still discovering.
What if we could look at the astonishing creations of the Universe in the same way a child discovers everything as they are learning? To feel the sheer joy and wonderment of this earthly existence, and the knowledge that there is a divinity surrounding and sustaining us.
And even though some days it feels, (like the beetle), we are just pushing around a ball of dung, try to take a moment, and watch for these marvels that surround you. Realizing that, we too, being souls on an earthly journey, are miracles; beautiful and unique and perfect.

Charles - Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre October 2018
I was intrigued when I heard about our Reverend Dianne starting a healing group. And although more than a little hesitant, I agreed to participate. To be honest, I was very much a sceptic about Spiritualism and certainly about any ability for myself to connect with Spirit! But you can always count me in when there is tea and cookies served afterwards!!
So, after several weeks practicing being in touch with our healing guides, I experienced a ‘visit’ from a man wearing a white doctors lab coat. I felt an overwhelming feeling of regret from him that he had not understood the power of spiritual healing while he was alive and practicing medicine.
Now, there were many things I believed about myself, one being that I have absolutely no imagination. So, I found it interesting that after having this experience, I just sluffed it off as pure imagination. Even after having this doctor visit repeatedly; even after he said to me one day, “tell her my name is Charles”, just moments before Dianne instructed us to ask the name of our guide; even after Dianne described the same wise, older looking man in a lab coat as I had seen.
For many weeks I just plain doubted that any of this experience was real. I questioned the wisdom of Spirit coming through me and my ability to receive their messages. I continued my daily routine, not realizing or acknowledging that something way beyond extraordinary had happened to me. One day I made an appointment to see my doctor (the one still on this side!) on a very routine matter. I am used to the fact that he is a teaching doctor and most visits he is accompanied by a young intern. On this occasion I was examined by a very tall young man who said he was from mainland China, he had taken his training at UBC and intended to return to China after completing his degree.
As my doctor was delayed, I had a chance to chat with this young man about his training and how they were now teaching courses on homeopathic medicine and spiritual healing. He was very animated, telling me about his interest in genome research and the differences he experienced between Western medicine and the Chinese herbal medicine that he had grown up with. It was a very fascinating discussion and I was almost sorry when my GP arrived and told me my results were okay and I was free to go. As I started to leave I reached out to shake hands with the young man and I said, “thank you for our wonderful talk doctor, I wish you all the best”. He said, “thank you, I enjoyed talking to you as well, but you don’t have to keep calling me doctor, just call me Charles”.
It was like I just entered the Twilight Zone! How was it that a doctor from China, being educated at UBC, came to Qualicum Beach to train with my doctor, on a day I had made an appointment, and his name was Charles?!? Are you kidding me? This was not my imagination, it was a definite message from Spirit. I realize how irked Spirit, and my guide Charles, must have been at me for not believing in them. Imagine all the work they had to do to create this scenario, just to give me a physical sign of their existence and their intent.
I am so very blessed and grateful for this connection to Charles, for the teachings of our Reverend Dianne and the connection our healing group has with Spirit and each other. This experience has been life changing.
And to think I only joined for the tea and cookies!!!!

Limitless Manifestation - Two Worlds Spiritualist Centre February 2020
Recently I watched a marvelous video called “Limitless Manifestation” by Ziad Masri. In it he stated, “That if you took all 7.7 billion people on earth and removed all the empty space between their atoms, the entire human race would fit into a single cube of sugar. What ancient texts and now modern science is proving is that the universe, including ourselves, is built on pure energy, pure consciousness. It only appears and feels solid because that’s how our brains are programmed to perceive and sense it.”
He references a study where 7000 monks meditated for three weeks in a state of love and peace. During that time, suicides and car accidents decreased, global crime rates reduced by 16% and acts of terrorism dropped an incredible 72%. This experiment was done, not recently, but in 1978, over forty years ago. I remember studying this in a class I was taking back then and the discussion was focused on all the reasons these results were easily explained, such as the study being done during a time when terrorists were observing a religious holiday, or were otherwise on summer vacation. I do not recall a single person, myself included, entertaining the incredible possibility that our consciousness is powerful beyond belief.
Sometimes I feel like a hypocrite, standing here on this podium, giving a reading about the power of love and Spirit. For example, I love movies, but I have said that, on occasion, I do watch a movie where things are getting blown up. I realize that feeling is often coming from a place of anger and fear and frustration. Can anyone blame us, when we see some of the horrible things that humans are capable of? How much easier it is to hate someone for what they are doing or what they believe. But as we have seen throughout human history, violence and hatred begets ever more escalating violence and hatred.
As Masri concludes, “It is time to embrace the new paradigm that empowers each and every one of us to change the world in a real and lasting way. Through the incredible power of your consciousness. There are no limits to your power when you align to a more truthful view of the world you live in. The love that you feel in your heart is an actual power that you have. It is literally the most powerful force on earth. And everyone has unlimited amounts of it to plant as seeds in the collective consciousness. Feel the peace and let your conscious abide there”.
Like I said in my New Years Resolution reading, I will try, day by day, to do better. All Spirit ever asks of us is that we try. Getting our world to a state of peace and serenity will not happen today, tomorrow or maybe even in our lifetimes. But, by doing the best we can to live with love in our hearts, we will contribute to the evolvement of our souls, and that of all humanity.
